Twinning agreement - Hungary - Support to the Implementation of the Water Framework Directive
In the framework of the Phare Twinning project entitled "Support to the Implementation of the Water Framework Directive", a specific component managed by IOWater was related to "Assessment of watershed contingency plans and their use in order to meet WFD requirements".
This study showed the necessity to make coherent the various water related information systems existing in Hungary. Moreover, it allowed the development of a prototype showing the possible integration of data coming from the 2 main national information systems to meet the needs, both for the Water Framework Directive requirements and for the preparation of the watershed contingency plans.
Study for the enhancement of existing water related information systems within the framework of the Water Framework Directive implementation.
The following was achieved through IOWater short-term experts' missions:
- Analysis of the main existing information systems related to water and the environment;
- Analysis of the processes used for collecting data for formulating contingency plans;
- Presentation of proposals for improving consistency, especially with the European framework directive, of the information systems allowing data collection and plan formulation.
At the end of these studies, a pilot project could be developed in the Sed Nador basin, with the preparation of an application prototype allowing the display, via Internet, of regional plans for the prevention against accidental pollution.
