Peer-to-peer project: a support process for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Flood Directive (FD)

15/04/2019

In November 2017, the European Commission's DG Environment selected the consortium formed by IOWater (France - lead partner), the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (Romania), the Secretariat of the Mediterranean Network of Basin Organizations - Menbo (Spain), Ecologic Institute (Germany), to extend the Peer Review Mechanism set up in the years 2015 and 2016.

The objective of this new "Peer to Peer" project is to provide basin organizations with a simple, voluntary and targeted system to enable mutual peer learning for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Flood Directive (FD), through the establishment of expert missions to institutions involved in the implementation of these directives.

In addition to these missions and in order to better understand the issues inherent to the WFD and DI, a series of thematic webinars was launched last March. The first of these "online meetings", hosted by JRC ISpra on 14 March, focused on the presentation of the European Drought Observatory (EDO) and brought together 30 participants from 13 Member States.

Water scarcity and drought management were the themes presented on the 5th of April by Menbo to 27 people from 14 Member States.

The next webinar on June 6 will be devoted to diffuse pollution: pesticides and nitrates.
